Vital Information

If you haven’t figured out by now, you’re at a webpage on the Internet for R.J. Schmidt; that’s me. I’m a recent Robert Morris University graduate, enjoy house music, and know the difference between a disk and a disc.

You probably want to know about my professional life though.

I organized my college classes so that my last semester was only electives; classes that I wanted to take which pertained to what I wanted to do with my degree. I had a full class schedule, went to my internship at KDKA-TV four days a week, worked a part time job, and finished my video documentary from my trip to Chile. I considered this to be a ‘final exam’ of my organizational, scheduling, and personal management skills.  Considering I graduated, was praised for my work by my internship supervisors, kept in good standing with my place of employment and completed my documentary on time; I think I passed.

During my four years at college, I completed two internships. I used this time to figure out what I was good at and what I enjoyed doing. My first internship with was CBS Radio Pittsburgh. During the internship I was hired into the production department and given a weekend board operator shift. This helped me gain a position in the promotions department when I was done interning.

At my other internship in the KDKA-TV commercial production department I gained experience working with real clients completing real projects that appeared on air.

These experiences have helped me realize that my strengths lie in writing and event organization. I use that term in its broadest sense: I can plan anything from a video shoot to an awareness event to guerrilla and social media marketing plans.

The bottom line is that I excel at helping people tell a story. Finding the necessary words or creating the necessary material to get the message to the correct audience is what I strive to do.

And I’m good at it.
